GLAFAD is a Pan-African knowledge based organization that conducts applied research and creates a platform for citizen education and knowledge sharing to inform policies and initiatives aimed at poverty alleviation. GLAFAD aims to reduce poverty in the continent by embedding knowledge sharing and capacity development on poverty eradication initiatives in the continent. Background

Knowledge is increasingly recognized as an important strategic resource by both private and public sector. Yet, the numerous reforms that have characterized public sector management necessitate knowledge sharing to enable the public officials to exchange best practice on policy implementation and draw out lessons of experience that can aid in learning and improvements. Similarly, poverty reduction initiatives can gain immensely from knowledge sharing between on innovative approaches that reduce poverty.

GLAFAD hopes to bridge this gap in public sector by providing a platform for knowledge sharing in order to link knowledge to application in beneficiary communities. GLAFAD seeks to promote the exchange of experiences, ideas and best practices concerning innovative implementation of local governance policies. GLAFAD will also spearhead other programmes focusing on raising community awareness of opportunities presented by policies and offering communities and stakeholders a platform to share experience on agriculture and rural development. GLAFAD’s overall aim is to harness the power of knowledge and add value to poverty eradication initiatives through improved local governance and empowerment of communities.

The GLAFAD VISION is

A continent where local governance is continually improved through knowledge sharing and where communities are empowered to be able to make use of opportunities in their environment.

The GLAFAD MISSION is

To be a link between knowledge and its application in local governments and beneficiary communities. To increase the responsiveness of policy reduction policies and initiatives to the realities lived by the affected communities.
